The Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance has proposed to construct an office building to house the two Boards: The Central Board of Direct Taxes and the Central Board of Excise and Customs. The 5.65-acre site is located on one of the major arteries of Luyten’s Delhi.
The building represents,
“AN EMERGING INDIA THAT HAS DEEP-ROOTED TRADITION AND CULTURE AND YET IS DYNAMIC, MODERN AND FORWARD-LOOKING.”
The building is planned around a hierarchy of courtyards that are suitable to the climate of Delhi. It responds to the surroundings, history, culture and climate yet has a contemporary image of Emerging India.
There is a functional segregation of various departments, that are at the same time integrated through connecting passages and corridors. The planning follows the strong principle of administrative discipline and hierarchy. Each space in the building overlooks two kinds of spaces, i.e., an enclosed courtyard and an open space, thus providing a visual feast.
