Modern Indian School houses a junior college and a senior college as an extension of the existing school sharing common facilities. The site slopes to the northeast, towards the river Bagmati. The school building has been designed as a series of interlinked courtyards surrounded with classrooms stepping towards the river and culminating in a large covered space to be used for sports activities creating interactive spaces for the students.
The laboratory blocks are located on either end of the building with lecture halls for the senior students on the North-East. The interesting feature of the design is an amphitheatre located on the third floor overlooking the river Bhagmati. The centrally located library overlooking the courtyard on one side and the entrance on the other side is common to the junior college and the senior college. The canteen is located on the outer side, spilling over to the adjacent open space segregated from the quiet atmosphere of the college. The local machine-cut bricks have been extensively used on the building facade.
Adjoining the building is a modern multi-purpose hall with bold exposed steel trusses for indoor sports activities and social functions of the college.
