The proposed site is located on the outskirts of Ahmedabad cantonment area adjoining the Civil residential area at about 100m from the airport. The development consists of complete infrastructure for the CGDA including the office building, VIP guest house, residential accommodation, transit accommodation, and a multi-purpose hall.
The site is a long and narrow strip of 1.5 acres. A rainwater drain, about 4.5m wide, passes through the center of the site along its length. The site is a land, filled up with loose material.
The various multi-functional requirements of different nature needed segregation of the areas in one plot without infringing on the privacy of each function. The office building is designed as three-storeyed linear structures, of two blocks connected through bridges over the drain forming a traditional landscaped street below. Common facilities like reception, library, canteen, etc. are located on the ground floor. Each office is so designed that it can function independently without infringing on the privacy of other departments.
The VIP guest house and Type V housing unit have their own separate entries within the complex and are located to create a buffer zone between the office and the residential areas. The other residential units are clubbed together with large green spaces and segregated from the transit facility which has been designed above the multipurpose hall forming a culmination point for the residents. The drain has been covered along the length with landscaped greens.
